Where should I go in USA? Choosing States- 'Things to keep in Mind'
Each year 100s of nurses migrate to the United States. There are 1000s of Nepali nurses currently practicing in different states of the USA with a salary of $70-80K on average. However, there are certain things to keep in mind while choosing a state in the USA.
- Things You should be aware of :-
Does the Nursing Regulatory body specify the requirement for the following?!!
1. Social Security Number
A Social Security Number (SSN) is a 9 digit number issued by the Social Security Administration to permanent residents, Citizens and temporary working residents of USA, with the purpose of identification, taxations' and other purposes.
2. IELTS REquirement
English language is required for immigration. but Some Nursing board require you to take IELTS before even applying to the NRB of that state. The IELTS is not compu;sury, Candidates can also do TOFEL if they wish. However, other test like PTE isn't acceptable till the day by Nursing Board. OET however, is accepted by State of Georgia only to this day.
3. State law and duration of NRB approval.
50 States have their own law. The minimum salary of Nursing Staff in that state is given by the state law, so to ensure that their labour isn't exploited, Nurses should go through the state law.
The nursing board approval takes variety of time, so a candidate should go for times that are flexible and not too long for themselves.
4. Expenses
Yes you earn alot in USA. But there are few states like Newyork, california whose living expenses are very high. Although in such states, a bigger amount is paid to nurses to cover their expense, it's very hard to save money and to buy houses and property
